Manaslu region is named after its name Manaslu Himal that is also known in the region of Kutang Himal. Manaslu is a reference to "mountain of the spirit" which is derived directly from Sanskrit term Manasa intellect which is also known as the soul. Manaslu Himal is the eighth highest mountain in the world. It is located in the west-central region of the Gorkha district. Its altitude is 8,163 metres (26,781 feet) from sea level. Toshio Imanishi along with Gyalzen Norbu became the first people to climb Manaslu Peak, who climbed on the 9th of May in 1956. Himalchuli (7,893 meters), Ngadichuli (7,871m), Shringi (7,187), Langpo (6,668m) and Saula (6,235) are the most prominent high peaks in the region. Manaslu region was declared the Manaslu Conservation Area by Government in December 1998, under the National Park and The Wild Life Conversation Act. The area of the Conversation Zone covers 1,663 square kilometers. The area is abundant in natural resources and historic sites of the cultural past. Manaslu is well-known for its various proposals and climates, major peaks, major summits and ethnic groups, wildlife and flora, hiking within the region.
